Scenario 1 of 4
A 7-year-old student, Leo, throws his pencil on the floor and yells, "I hate writing!" when asked to start a journal entry. He is scowling and has his fists clenched.
Tell Leo to pick up his pencil immediately and that he won't go to recess until his journal is done.
Kneel down to his level, speak softly, and say, "It looks like you're feeling really frustrated with writing right now. Can we draw the story first?"
Ignore the outburst and tell the rest of the class to get started on their work.
Send Leo to the principal's office for being defiant.
